This SDL is located on lands at the Port of Foynes, within Foynes settlement, and along a key Transport Corridor. The SDL incorporates the existing Port lands (developed lands), as well as an additional portion of zoned lands which have been identified for the sustainable growth buyambiencheap.com and development of marine related industry.
Development ConsiderationsThe site occupies a strategic location along the N69 road corridor in close proximity to both Limerick City and Shannon International Airport. The location along the N69 as the key transport corridor provides direct access onto the National Road Network which is critical for the efficient movement of freight to and from the Port. The existing rail network provides significant opportunities for improved efficiency in freight movements, transportation modes, reducing greenhouse emissions, and creating more competitive supply chains for existing and future Port users. Proposals for marine related industry and more specifically sustainable port-related uses will be encouraged, along with alternative uses, which will complement the existing proposed marine related uses within the site. This SDL derives significant benefit from the existing port facilities and access to deep water. The existing port Masterplan, Vision 2041, has identified a number of key development opportunities involving new berthing facilities, onshore infrastructure and the ability to accommodate larger vessels, which are being progressively implemented. SFPC is Ireland’s second largest port facility, currently handling in excess of 10 million tonnes per annum. It was the first port facility in Ireland and the UK to achieve ISO 9001 quality standard accreditation, and remains firmly committed to a policy of continuous improvement and development. The existing port of Foynes accommodates vessels up to 200m in length with a 10.5m draft, with the option to increase this to in excess of 18m on the adjoining Foynes Island SDL. The site has immediate access to 38 kVa power, but higher capacity is available, and is in close proximity to the national gas transmission network. High speed broadband and potable water are available to the site.
